Part 1: The Two Dead Girls-Chapters 4

Chapter 4 starts out with introducing the Detterick family. The Detterick family lived in the South. Klaus, the father, Majorie,his wife, and their 3 kids; Howard and the twins, Cora and Kathe. It was a warm June night and the girls asked for permission to sleep in the screened-in porch. The parents agreed and the girls happily slept outside. The next morning, the girls are missing. Mr. Detterick and his son Howie go out on a search for them with a group of men and some search dogs. After a while, they arrive at something excruciating; A huge man with each daughter in one arm, naked, covered in blood. They begin to talk to him and he is in a daze. All he can say is, "I couldn't help it, I tried to take it back but it was too late."
