Part 2: The Mouse on the Mile-Chapters 1-3

Paul talks about Georgia Pines, a nursing home where "he's crossing his last bunch of t's and dotting his last mess of i's." He says that it reminds him a lot of Cold Mountain and there's even a man, Brad Dolan, that reminds him of Percy Wetmore. He is now much older and starts going back to the past. He talks about how 1932 was a year he could never forget. That was the year that John Coffey and William Wharton arrived and Eduard Delacroix's execution did not go so well. It was also the year that Mr. Jingles or Steamboat Willy started hanging around E Block. Paul went back to a time when the mouse proved his intelligence once again. He would only eat food from certain people, such as Paul or Brutal, the people that were around a lot. There was an incidence when Percy tried to kill him but he got away. From that point on, he usually knew only to come around when Percy was nowhere in sight. The guys were amazed at his ability.
