Part 3: Coffey's Hands-Chapters 1-2

Paul talks about where he lives now, Georgia Pines, and his friend Elaine. He talks about how many people think that he is stand-offy, but Elaine doesn't. Paul is writing this book back in time and he becomes cold and shaky. Elaine asks whats bothering him and he starts to tell about William Wharton and how he's writing about how Wharton almost killed Dean. Chapter 2 starts to finish the story about Wharton holding Dean hostage. Percy had the oppurtunity to hit Wharton with his baton but he froze, he did not even move. All of a sudden, Brutus pushes Percy aside and hits the living daylights out of Wharton from behind and saved Dean's life. Wharton was unconscious and put into his cell.

Thoughts on the first 2 parts

So far its a good storyline. I'm still anxious to see what is John Coffey's deal. Paul is extremely peculiar about Coffey and I believe there is more to his story. I wonder why he weeps all the time. Another thing is what significance the mouse has. It seems like Mr. Jingles also serves as a form of entertainment for the men on the Green Mile. So far, Percy Wetmore has proven himself to be nothing but a selfish, cowardly man. As Paul mentions in the previous chapter, you would think that Percy would love to wack Wharton with the baton since he had been trying to for a while, but now that the chance has come he is too scared for the opportunity. This shows that he is a real coward because he is more than willing to hit and hurt nervous little Frechman Delacroix or out of it John Coffey, but when it comes to a real challenge or dangerous man, he won't move a muscle.

Part 2: The Mouse on the Mile-Chapters 10-11

Paul was in excruciating pain at this point. The days would be so painful to him he could hardly walk. He tried, as much as he could, to disreguard it but he took the day off. He received Delacroix's DOE(Date of Execution) papers and he was scheduled for Old Sparky soon. While he was off, Paul went to go see Warden Hal Moores and his wife. Warden Moores was very upset because his wife has a brain tumor and is said to not have much time. This was a very emotional time for Warden Moores and he was very thankful that Paul stopped by.
Paul headed back over to Cold Mountain and Brutal, Harry, and the rest of the men settled in a psychopath named William Wharton aka "Billy the Kid" on E block and there was a little trouble. The men thought that Wharton was doped at first. He dragged around wherever the men took him and then all of a sudden when Dean went to unlock his cell, he came alive and started to choke him with his chains. Brutal, Harry, and Paul all tried to hit Wharton or save Dean but he was a maniac and very sly. The chapter ends when Wharton is choking Dean with his chains and Paul takes out his .38, Paul wants to shoot but can't because Wharton puts Dean right in front of him so Paul would surely hit him if he shot.

Part 2: The Mouse on the Mile-Chapters 7-9

Paul goes back to the day that Eduard Delacroix came. Percy brings him in and is beating him because Percy thought that Delacroix was trying to feel him up when really he just fell and happened to put his hands near Percy's lower parts. Paul screamed at Percy because that's not part of their job. Delacroix was a Frenchman and a very nervous guy. From then on whenever anyone moved he would flinch. But after that things were back to normal. Percy even was nice for a change and when Delacroix wanted a home for Mr. Jingles, Percy got him a nice little cigar box. Percy knew that he was going to be out front for Delacroix's execution.
The mouse still was doing miraculous things. Delacroix would roll out a wooden spool and Mr. Jingles would go get it and bring it right back to him. Time after time he would do this and he also ate candy that Delacroix gave him. He sat on Del's shoulder all the time.
